The award-winning Gran Turismo franchise returns with its 5th installment, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, exclusively for PlayStation 3. Polyphony Digital is known for pushing the limits of the PlayStation hardware, and with its realistic graphics and physics, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is no different. In addition to receiving CAD data from the auto manufacturers, they have taken thousands of photos to model each car (and track). As an example of the level of detail, a car in Gran Turismo 4 has the same number of polygons as a headlight in Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Polyphony works even closer with the automotive industry to make sure that the cars look and drive just as they do in real life. In fact, Kazunori Yamauchi designed the on-board computer for the real Nissan GT-R. What Customers Say About Gran Turismo 5 Prologue:
|
|
That's not fair. It's take forever for the winning dollar totals to add up when adding them to your winning account. Pro:Excellent GraphicsI like the jazz music.Con:You always have to start from last position. You can show great graphics, but to add two numbers take an eternity. When I won the races and unlock the extra cars, they were added to the end of list of car manufactures. Why can't you do a trial run to see which pole position you would start in.You have to select a certain make car to enter the race. After you do that and start the race, there are other makes of cars racing against you. Why aren't they added in alphabetical order. I didn't even know they existed for the longest time.
The greatest are the graphics and realism. The introduction video is awesome indeed.I would have liked the "car damage" feature included as in others racing games but I think this is something desired to make GT 5 more real but not really needed, IMO
The graphics are wonderful but everything else about this game leaves much to be desired.1) Penalties - They are completely inconsistent. Try that in real life and you would likely get stuck in the sand. Also, I was at the high speed track and someone inside of me crashed and as they slid up in front of me sideways, of course I hit them.but I got the penalty. Anyone with half of a brain cell knows that drifting is NOT the fastest way around a turn at Suzuka or a high speed oval. Yet while playing online on Suzuka, I notice others driving off in turn two, going way off the track and coming on the track in turn 4 way ahead of me, and they receive no penalty. Also, if you slide in the wall and your front hits first.no penalty.but if your side or rear hits first you can (unrealistically) use the wall to go artificially fast in the turns and receive no penalty. I have played at a friends house before, but this is the first time I have actually owned and played a GT title more than one or two times. 3) Drifting - this silly "sport" of drifting has ruined driving video games.
I assume this is all because the 15 year old nerds that are the main audience think drifting is cool so they made it the fastest way around. The GT5 demo time trial is much more realistic in that sense so hopefully the full game will be improved. 4) online play - I read way back in 3/08 that this game was going to add private online racing as an option through an update, but that has yet to happen. This is the most unrealistic driving game I have ever played. If you run off a little too much on the inside while taking a turn, you get a 5 second penalty. Ever see a Nascar or F1 guy drift around a turn.
2) Physics (off road) - I have heard GT5 tries to model everything to be accurate as possible to real life. Like I mentioned above, in Suzuka people are able to drive off in the sand at high speed and maintain that speed all the way through from turn 2 to turn 4. Yet while playing online I see that all of the fast guys are drifting around the turns and that is by far seems to be the fastest way around a turn. I hope the full game has this ability.
Buy a used copy and it might not be so muchof a disappointment if you are used to the Need for Speed style games.I'm sure some people will think I'm a poor driver that can't hack it. This game has really nice graphics, too true to life physics and beautiful mood music.Other than that it's not much fun to play. it's so unforgiving, it's made like a Rolex with attention to the slightest detail, and in the end it fails to be a gameE, and is morelike some Swiss driving school in Singapore. but I paid for a fun game that I will want to, and be able to, play over and over. Turismo 5 is not that.
I love playing GT4 with my daughter, but after awhile I just couldn't take it. I can do it. My eyes just don't have the strength in them to stare at a screen for hours on end. This one, however, is different. The high resolution graphics make all the difference. The game itself is just as good as before, though this preview version doesn't have near as many venues or vehicles.
